The Riga Pasaules Film festival is an annual film festival that is oriented towards exploring the intersections between cinema and ethnography. It is a space where practitioners and the general public can explore various aspects of the process of making films, visualising anthropology, and capabilities of cinema to convey an experience on its own terms.
The '17 festival programme "Revealing the Unexpected" features non-fiction films that contain within their narrative and form the unforeseen dynamics at play in documentary production. This year's programme intends to contribute to a discussion that values the creative potential of happenstance, discovery, and surprise as central aspects of filmmaking.
The festival is held at the art-house cinema “Kino Bize” in Riga, Latvia. It is organised in collaboration with the Latvian Association of Anthropologists, Tallinn University, supported by Culture Capital Foundation, Riga City Council and the British Council.
