Poetry and music performance “The Year of Love”
Aleksandrs Čaks. Niks Matvejevs. Mārtiņš Vilsons.
Love visits at the most unexpected moments. It creates inspiration against the mundane reality of the world.
Love for life.
Love for women.
Čaks was the soul of society - where there was Čaks, there was life. Witty toasts, tributes to some very unassuming women who, when singled out by the poet, suddenly sparkled with emotion. The accentuation of short skirts, the allure of the gaze, the naked touch, formed Čaks's erotic poetry, which had a connection with the deepest, only perceptible sensuality.
Niks Matvejevs was a gourmet of life, at once shy and kind-hearted, with a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. A musician, a composer, blessed with a great sense of humour, a talent for storytelling and a big heart. Niks has left us two albums of Čaks's poetry: “Songs for Girls” and “Confessions”. The performance “The Year of Love” features songs from these albums performed by Mārtiņš as a gift to his friend Niks on his 65th birthday.
Mārtiņš Vilsons's way of presenting poetry transcends time. Masculine and vulnerable is the heart that Mārtiņš shares with his audience. Unashamed and frank. The musical setting of the performance is in Mārtiņš's voice and guitar.
Mārtiņš Vilsons has been awarded twice for his patient co-thinking: in 2021 he received the Aleksandrs Čaks Award for his outstanding and long-lasting contribution to the production of Aleksandrs Čaks's poetry and for his affirmation of the values of the poet's work in the performance “Čaks. Vilsons. Mirrors of Imagination”, and in 2014, for the promotion of the work of Aleksandrs Čaks, a commemorative badge of Aleksandrs Čaks was awarded.
