Let's explore the winter solstice on 16 December at 18.00 in the Valmiermuiža beer lounge with the folklore group “Dandari”!
The darkest time, when chaos and disorder reign in nature, is also the time when people feel themselves becoming something else, something out of the ordinary. Each mask comes with its own meaning and doings. Budēļi drag a block around the house to keep the trouble away, but to let the sun come to us again. The bunch of children walk from house to house, bringing health, good luck and fun. In the old days, Latvians used to raise their ploughs and other tools at the winter solstice, already thinking of spring. We too can remember familiar dances and learn new ones. At the celebration of winter, all the flocks move, but the bear has a special dance “Danco lāci”, which we will also learn.
The LU dance folklore band “Dandari” has been active for more than 40 years and has released 3 albums of music - a disc of dances and two discs of quadrilles (multi-couple dances) and their latest album "Divatā”, dedicated to the couple dances that “Dandari” plays and dances at events and international festivals.
Tickets: 10 EUR. Children under 6 years of age are free.
The Valmiermuiža beer kitchen will have prepared delicious food, brews and the special annual beer “Ziemas svētki” to refresh the enthusiastic dancers.
Organised by Valmiermuiža Association of Culture, supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation, Valmiermuiža craft brewery.
