Event "Concert and dance evening in the Valmiermuiža Beer Lounge | Meteņi" organizer: Valmiermuižas kultūras biedrība
We invite you to explore Meteņi on 09 February at 20.00 in the Valmiermuiža Beer Lounge!
Meteņi is a time when winter fights with spring, when no one wants to give up. You can go on masked processions for the last time, and you can also do some visiting - the further away the better. If Latvians don't brag and say: “What about me?”, then on Meteņi one can and should brag. In the old days, it was about whose father had the longest flax, but nowadays you can certainly find other garden bounty to show off. Singing, dancing and movement have a lot to do with fertility and productivity. The most important tradition of Meteņi is the ensuring of the harvest. To make sure that we get a good harvest, get moving and ensure a good harvest for everyone, we will learn one easy game with a bragging opportunity, who can brag more interestingly and better “Rupjmaizkukuls” and one dance where everyone will have to invent their own special grip, “Vidzemes jandāls”.
The LU Dance Folklore Group “Dandari” has been active for more than 40 years and has released 3 music albums - a play CD and two quadrille (multi-couple dance) CDs, and its latest album “Divatā”, which is dedicated to the couple dances that “Dandari” plays and dances at events and international festivals.
Tickets: 10 EUR. Children under 6 years of age free admission.
In the Valmiermuiža Beer Kitchen, the local innkeepers will have prepared delicious dishes and brews to refresh the enthusiastic dancers.
Organised by the Valmiermuiža Association of Culture, supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation, Valmiermuiža Craft Brewery.
