Baltic Analog Lab invites you to the 6th Experimental Film Festival Process dedicated to the analog film practices. It will take place from 21 to 25 May, in Vagonu Hall, Bar 1983 (Riga, Vagonu iela 21), and Baltic Analog Lab (Lienes iela 19a).
The theme of this year’s festival is Gathering of Ghosts, referring to the phantasmagoria performance as one of the earliest moving image forms. Through it, we want to explore the connections between the moving image and magic, viewing cinema as a ritual with which to make visible the otherwise invisible.
In collaboration with the SPECTRAL project carried out by six European artist-run filmlabs, the festival will pay special attention to the practice of expanded cinema, exhibiting performances in several curated programmes as well as at the festival’s opening event. There will be performances by artists Melissa Ferrari (US), who will also present a magic lantern workshop, Loic Verdillon and Clovis Lemaire-Cardoen (France), Natalia Kozieł-Kalliomäki (Finland), Olivier Periquet and Quentin Conrate (France), Oona Libens (Sweden), Human Infrastructure (Korea), and others, as well as musicians Orbīta, Grab (Latvia) and Latvian-Georgian duo Darja Kazimira&Zura Makharadze.
Beside the focus programmes and events, the festival will present four programmes of short films made by various international and local artists. This year’s film programs are curated by invited curators Ejla Kovačević, Croatia, who has curated programs at the 25 FPS festival (Zagreb) and Kinoskop (Belgrade), and Martin Grennberger from Sweden, who has curated programs at the Exis festival (Seoul) and Arsenal (Berlin), as well as long-time representatives of the Baltic Analog Lab collective, Lāsma Bērtule and Ieva Balode (Latvia).
