This year Jurmala will hold the largest yet beach volleyball event in the Baltics - the 2016 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship Jurmala Masters, which will be held from September 1st to 4th at the Jurmala beach volleyball centre in Majori. Europe’s leading volleyball players will take part in the tournament not only in the men’s, but also in the women’s groups.
Participating in the championship and competing for the prize - 50 000 euros - this year Latvia’s most promising young women’s volleyball players - the 2015 European U18 champions Tina Graudina and Paula Neciporuka, and the leading Latvian men's players - Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins will also be included. 16 of the best European men's and 16 women's teams will compete in the Jurmala Masters main draw, but 16 beach volleyball pairs will have the opportunity to compete in the qualification tournament.
With the successful organisation of international beach volleyball championships, the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) Satellite tournament in 2014, the CEV Masters for the strongest European beach volleyball men's pairs last year, and the CEV Masters tournament for men and women this year, the city of Jurmala has solidified its position on the map as one of Europe's beach volleyball capitals.
The 2016 CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship Jurmala Masters will take place from September 1st to 4th at the Jurmala beach centre in Majori. The CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship Jurmala Masters will be a higher level tournament for the women's and men's pairs than previous competitions, and will be an important test for Latvia leading up to the anticipated 2017 European Championship Final in Jurmala. This year six beach volleyball courts – four courts for games and two – warm-up courts – will be constructed specially for the championship on the Jurmala beach. The final matches will take place in the central stadium. Jurmala Masters will require construction of a stadium for 2800 spectators on the beach.
Jurmala Masters has also been included in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) 2016 official beach volleyball calendar and international tournament circuit.
The entry will be free for the first competition days 31 August – 2 September, when the country quota, qualification and pool play games will be held. But for Saturday and Sunday 3 – 4 September, spectators will have to buy tickets for entering the central court, where the play-off games and all the finals will be played. Attending games on all other courts will be free of charge.
Admission is free for children up to the age of 6.
Children between the ages of 7 and 12 can buy tickets with a 50% discount, but they will have to show ID upon entering the stadium.
Persons in wheelchairs with attendants have to buy one ticket for both.
